From Pilot To Producer: An Interview with Allen Wish

From Pilot To Producer: An Interview with Allen Wish

Every year we see a crop of new producers joining the fray, looking to make a splash in the music scene. While many never quite seem to elevate beyond a certain point, Allen Wish has carved out his own space and is quickly becoming that household name many dream of.  His journey to the top isn’t quite conventional given his background which is why we’re so amped up that he was able to sit down and answer a few questions for us. Check it out below!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! How has your summer been so far?
Thank you, it’s a pleasure! I’ve been spending time with my family and dogs, ridding my bike and also working on my future productions. It’s been a pretty productive summer!

the lightYour latest release, The Light, has been out for a few weeks now. What has been the overall reaction to it?
The reaction has been positive so far. The preview on SoundCloud has gotten 140k plays, 3k hearts and I’ve been playing it in all my sets. The public reaction has been overwhelming.

So it’s our understanding that you’re still relatively new to the mainstream limelight of music production. What has been your biggest motivation to get to where you are today?
My biggest motivation has always has always been to take my dreams and goals, and make them a reality. When I have something in my mind, I have to do it.

What is that signature Allen Wish sound that you’re after?
It’s not so much a sound, it’s more like a style. I’m still building it but in my future productions you’ll hear it more clear. It’s a fusion between guitars and riffs from rock music with a Progressive House touch. Still electronic dance music but with a touch of my musical background. It’s like trying to put element’s of every song I listen to, into my music.

Where do you draw some of your inspiration from? Is there anyone in particular who influences the style you’re developing?
Right now for my music, the biggest influence is rock in general. It can be modern or from the 70’s and 80’s. From an electronic background, my biggest influence is Nicky Romero.

Stepping away from music for a second, we hear you’re really into aviation, specifically helicopters. Can you tell us a bit about that?
Yes! I’ve been a helicopter pilot since 2008. I had the chance to fly for the D.O.D. (Department Of Defense of UE) for 4 years in Afghanistan. I’ve also flown as a commercial pilot for 2 years. After that i decided to make music my main career.

It’s a pretty big jump from pilot to producer. Did you always know that music wAllenWish1as your calling? Was there an “a ha” moment that you knew you were heading towards becoming a musician?
After flying in Afghanistan for 4 years, I felt that I was missing something. I didn’t feel that passion, or something like that, as a pilot. I only felt it when I was making music or DJ’ing in my free time. So I decided to leave all that behind and take music on as my main career. It helped get me out of that hole I felt my life had become.

We hear you were big into the piano when you were younger. Do you try to incorporate those kinds of elements into your productions?
Yes, in fact all my tracks starts with a piano! I make the melodies, basses and harmonies there. Then, when I feel I have something strong, I pass it over to the computer.

Do you have any new productions in the works that you can tell us about?
Yes, I am working on something that’s a bit out of my comfort zone. It’s a bit more musical… more for the ears and not so much for the dance floor. It has a bit of influence of pop music, progressive house and indie rock. I really think this one is something new; It sounds like the future.

What’s next for you as an artist?
We’re currently planning a tour in North America. It’s a work in progress but hopefully this year I’ll be ready. I am working hard to consolidate my image internationally as well. I’m going to ADE for some meetings to try to close some deals with a few labels I’m working with to reach more people. That’s my main goal right, now take my music to the masses.

Thank you for taking the time to answer a bunch of our questions! Is there anything in particular you’d like say to your current and future fans?
First thanks a lot for all of your support during these few months of my public career. I am working really hard to return the favor with great music! You can be sure this is just the start of a long journey and I hope to keep you with me until the end!
